Jam of the Day – Thao & The Get Down Stay Down Are Anything But Common

San Francisco band Thao & The Get Down Stay Down released their new album, We The Common, this week, on Ribbon Music. The title track, “We The Common,” with it’s jangly clattering folk sound and smoky vocals, will hook you right away. Their tour to promote the new album will hit NYC in March, with shows at The Bowery Ballroom on March 22nd and at The Bell House on March 25th.

Jam of the Day – Fort Lean “All The Lights”

If the promo material is to be believed, Fort Lean is a place you can go. But it’s also a place that isn’t quite sure about its audience yet, a place that is really shaping up and starting to look and feel pretty solid after two EPs but also belies an underlying uncertainty about opening day. The group’s most recent effort, Change Your Name, was produced by Patrick Wemberly from Chairlift, who lends a steady hand throughout. “All the Lights” is a highlight for the band and especially singer Keenan Mitchell, and we can’t wait for the full length.

Jam of the Day – Junip Provides Ambient Mood for Subarctic Climes

Swedish Folk Band Junip released their first full-length album, Fields, back in 2010. In December, the band announced that they will release a new self titled album this April. The song progression in Fields really builds and is worth a full listen here. “Howl” is one of my favorite tracks. Their sound has a haunting, seventies feel, even drawing recent comparisons to Cat Stevens from The New York Times.

Their new single, “Line of Fire,” from the upcoming album is available from free download on their website. So get inside, grab a glass of red wine and have a listen!

Jam of the Day – My Morning Jacket’s Holiday Detox

My Morning Jacket will be playing three shows in Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theater later this month, leading up to their New Year’s eve show at Boston University’s Agganis Arena with Preservation Hall Jazz Band. This is a nice mellow jam to start the week off. I’m not sure why they become animated cyclopses after jumping into that hole but what I do know is those white boots are going on someone’s Christmas wish list (ok, it’s mine).

Jam of the Day – The Lumineers Light Up These Grey Skies

The Lumineers are a rustic folk trio who have been all over the radio since their single, “Ho Hey”, hit the airwaves and the Billboard Charts this summer. They are playing a free show in New York on December 17th at Upstate Concert Hall in Clifton Park, NY. The song is short and sweet and it’s easy to see why it’s become such a hit. They will be opening for Dave Matthews Band for a bunch of their tour dates in December including their sold out show at the Barcalys Center in Brooklyn.

EV2BK Productions – Boy Crisis “L’Homme” Official Music Video

After over a year of sitting on this amazing video that we produced with EMOTE Productions for Boy Crisis, the funk of a thousand suns burst through the cables holding it back and the glorious “L’Homme” video found its way into the world. Will this serve as the guiding beacon bringing Boy Crisis home again and ready to party? We hope so.

Jam of the Day – School Of Seven Bells Tells Us A Ghostory

Named for the infamous, clandestine, possibly mythical South American pickpocket academy, School of Seven Bells released their third album, Ghostory, this Tuesday. They are playing tonight to a sold out crowd at Mercury Lounge. The band’s lineup has changed on this album and the trio is now a duo: guitarist/producer Benjamin Curtis and vocalist Alejandra Deheza. According to the band, Ghostory is about a girl, Lafaye, and the ghosts that surround her life. Shot in an old house in Dallas, this video had a creepy, haunting vibe perfect for today’s dreary forecast.
